Andritz Ahlstrom Inc. awarded PSF with the contract to supply a 304L stainless steel Clad Continuous Digester to the Willamette Industries’ Albany, OR mill site. The Digester is 19 feet-6 inches diameter by 169 feet-8 inches flange-to-flange with a 16 feet-6 inches high Skirt. Because of the size and shipping constraints into the State of Oregon, we decided to fabricate the Digester in eight feet high half shell sections with nozzles and internals installed in the shop as much as possible and the balance of the shell material shipped as “knocked down” plate. We mobilized our field crew to the Mill Site the first week of September. We assembled the shell sections into cans with all nozzles and internals installed, and then joined the shell cans into five sub-assemblies. These sub-assemblies were stacked on the foundation. We then fit-up and welded them out with Hydro-testing taking place in March.
